Mei Tai Carrier FAQ

1. Are the straps linked inside the FunkySlings mei tai body?

No, as this would create pressure points on your baby’s back. It’s best to have the body cradle your baby’s whole body like a hammock would.

2. Is there a detachable headrest on the FunkySlings mei tai?

No but we are currently working on a version that will include this feature. Nevertheless, we feel that a detachable headrest is not introducing any new features or improvements to our mei tais as the mei tai body and its curved headrest at the top are enough to ensure head support for your baby. If you need extra head support for your toddler, you may want to consider the Isis Mei Tai, as your whole toddler’s upper body and head can be supported due to the extra body length of the mei tai body.

3. Are your straps angled enough?

Yes. From November 2007 onwards we started to angle our top straps even more to provide ultimate head support. Disregarding how your mei tai top straps are angled, you can always turn them inside out to make the top of the mei tai more narrow and therefore provide even better head support for newborns. Please download our document Mei Tai Tips and Tricks.

4. What shall I do when I receive my FunkySlings mei tai?

Try it out when you and baby are relaxed. If you are new to mei tais, take your time and practice somewhere soft like your bed or sofa. It is also recommended to wash your mei tai with your washing powder to avoid any skin reactions. FunkySlings mei tais are tested for ironing and you can iron them on a cotton setting.

5. It just doesn’t feel right ... what do I do now?

It can take some time to find out how to best use your mei tai. Please read our mei tai tips and tricks information leaflet and email us if you have any further questions. It is also a good idea to go to your local Slingmeet to get some help from other babywearers.
